We have a Med-Peds specific QI curriculum that is team-based, longitudinal, and focused on care of our residents’ clinic patients. Our residents learn the Model for Improvement framework and use tools developed by CCHMC’s nationally-recognized Anderson Center to work through QI projects from start to finish. Some highlights
of our QI experiences include:
Robust, personalized clinic performance data - Our residents have access to interactive, visual dashboards in our electronic health record system (Epic) that allow learners to see their performance across multiple clinical care
measures, and use this data for population health management.
Defense of the Measures – Our residents decide which clinical measures are followed in our performance data dashboards. Each year at the Internal Medicine Academic Half Day,
residents present updated evidence on various measures (e.g. PSA screening, mammogram intervals, etc.) and vote to determine any changes that will be made to the metrics each year. In this way, residents lead the way on shaping our performance
data.
Weekly QI meetings – While on electives, you will join your Med-Peds colleagues from 8-9AM every Monday morning for robust QI project discussions. This is protected time to focus on the clinic QI project and learn improvement
methodology.
Inpatient QI experience at CCHMC – Residents rotating on our Purple Hospital Medicine team participate in an inpatient QI project with coaching from one of our QI faculty.
QI scholarship - Residents will have opportunities to present their improvement work at regional or national meetings, or to publish their work while learning about QI reporting guidelines.
We also have experts inLean methodology available to mentor our residents, as well as advanced QI experiences (both in Model for Improvement and Lean) through
the Anderson Center for those who are passionate about QI and looking for even more advanced training.
Our residents and faculty strive to deliver safe, effective, quality patient care, and we will provide you with opportunities for continuous improvement while learning QI strategies that are transferrable to any career path.
