We have two weekly conferences that are Med-Peds specific.
Med-Peds noon conference - every Tuesday 12-1PM – This is attended by most of our residents and faculty and is a great way for us to connect as a Med-Peds family. We cover a range of clinical, education, DEI, QI, health policy, and population health topics that are chosen by our residents and Med-Peds faculty. As a resident it is also the perfect environment to hone your presentation skills.
Weekly pre-clinic conference – Our Med-Peds program leadership has refined this longitudinal curriculum over time to provide robust learning on topics germane to outpatient practice. These are interactive, resident-led discussions based on specifically-chosen journal articles and PowerPoints.
Academic Half Day – every Thursday 1-3:30PM - interns are members of team-based learning groups. AHD has become one of the flagship learning experiences at UC.
IM noon report – every day 12-1PM – this conference is led by our amazing chief residents, who use evidence-based learning strategies and interactive discussions to engage our learners.
Medicine Grand Rounds – Every Wednesday, hear from experts and leaders from around the institution, and from guest outside speakers
Finding Meaning in Medicine – a weekly meeting to connect, reflect, and explore different experiences that healthcare providers have in depth within a supportive group
Morning report – every day from 7:30-8AM – 30 minutes of focused learning with coffee and assorted breakfast foods to get you ready for rounds.
Noon report – every day from 12-1PM – A variety of topics and presenters take you through a longitudinal curriculum that covers all aspects of Pediatrics.
Morbidity and Mortality – learn to approach an error or failure through a systems lens in this safe, collaborative conference.
FIRMS – a favorite conference of the Pediatric residents, this monthly conference allows residents to work in teams with faculty members to solve a challenging case, step-by-step.
Pediatric Grand Rounds – every Tuesday, learn from nationally-recognized experts from a variety of specialties.
Farrell rounds – all of our residents give an evidence-based chairman’s rounds presentation on a topic of their choice.
Nationally about 75% of Med-Peds residents who complete training will become dually boarded. Close to 95% of our Cincinnati Med-Peds graduates are dually boarded. Our successful strategy? First and foremost, we help you individualize your learning
using your in-training exam scores and our internal testing program. We also help you find and address your gaps, and supplement your learning with multiple opportunities for board study.
Subsidized purchasing of MKSAP board prep. Created
by the ACP, MKSAP is one of the most robust learning platforms available. It includes learning analytics, multiple choice questions, high-yield topic chapters, and flashcards. MKSAP also includes a coaching function,
allowing our program leadership to push you weekly questions, which are completely optional. Our residents have formed teams and taken a gamified approach to answering these weekly questions, creating a fun residency-wide learning environment.
We subsidize access to NEJM Knowledge Plus for our PGY3 and PGY4 residents. This platform has many similar fantastic learning functions to
MKSAP, including learning analytics, a coaching function, and over 2000 multiple choice questions. Our 3rd and 4th year residents also have weekly questions pushed from this question bank, ensuring that during the last two
years of residency you will have a mechanism to encourage regular studying for both IM and Peds boards throughout the year.
Free access to PREP questions from the American Academy of Pediatrics. This high-yield question bank is available throughout all years of residency.
A longitudinal Internal Medicine board preparation course that has proven to raise in-training exam
scores. This course includes hundreds of locally developed multiple-choice questions along with monthly board-review meetings.
A longitudinal Pediatric board preparation course that is recorded so you can access it any time.
An annual conference to discuss evidence-based learning and test-taking strategies with a learning specialist, Dr. Swati Pandya.
