Loay Aljaberi
Loay finished a 6-year combined MD program from Al-Quds (Jerusalem) University in 2018. Loay’s interest in surgery was evident early on during medical school for which he pursued multiple surgical sub-internships in the United States at the time. He also focused on extra-curricular activities during medical school. Loay chaired the standing committee of professional exchange at the International Federation of Medical Student’s Association that promoted medical and cultural exchange between medical students from different countries.  He completed his Intern year at the Mayo Clinic, in Rochester, MN as a general surgery resident. During this year, Loay developed an interest in vascular and endo-vascular surgery and joined our integrated vascular surgery program as a PGY-2. At UC, he is working to enhance his surgical skills and work on clinical research during his residency. During his free time, Loay likes to go to the gym, hang out with friends and try new restaurants in Cincinnati.

Eric Hammond
Eric completed medical school at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY. He attended Wilkes University in Wilkes Barre, PA for undergraduate education, majoring in biology. While participating in the Guthrie Scholars Program, during undergrad, at the Guthrie Health system in Sayre, PA, he was introduced to and became interested in the field of vascular surgery, an interest enriched and fostered throughout medical school. He participated in volunteer activities including vascular screening events and adaptive climbing during medical school. He has a special interest in peripheral vascular disease and limb preservation. In his spare time, he enjoys rock climbing, photography and hiking, among other outdoor activities.

Jacob Hughes
Jake received his medical degree from the Eastern Virginia Medical School, graduating with AOA honors. As an undergraduate, he attended the University of Virginia where he majored in biochemistry and music. While at UVA he was very active in the Charlottesville Symphony and Jazz Ensemble and played the bass in hundreds of classical works. In medical school, he took interest in patient and physician advocacy and joined the Medical Society of Virginia to help make policy changes at the state level. He is excited to be pursuing his vascular surgery training at UC and has a particular interest in cerebrovascular disease and limb salvage. In his free time, he enjoys playing his upright bass, hiking, exploring the extensive Cincinnati restaurant and brewery scene, and scuba diving.

Douglas Rodgers
Doug received his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine. He attended Johns Hopkins University for college, where he majored in applied economics and conducted research at the Johns Hopkins Institute for Applied Economics, Global Health and the Study of Business Enterprise. His interest in economics prompted him to obtain an MBA degree from Brandeis University while attending medical school. Doug co-founded the health care team for the nonprofit Foundation for Education in Honduras (FEIH) and implemented the health education initiative that provided the basic health supplies and informational pamphlets for opening of each school. In his free time, he enjoys working out, playing golf, and watching sports.  

Kristie Yu
Kristie is a graduate of Northeast Ohio Medical University. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Richmond with a BS in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. She went on to do her Master’s in Physiology at the University of Cincinnati. Kristie is an Ohio native and grew up in the suburbs of Cleveland, Ohio. She was excited to stay close to home for her residency training and is looking forward to spending her time in Cincinnati! While pursuing her medical education, Kristie volunteered at The Akron Children’s Buddy program, realizing the important role of treating the patients as a whole and not just their ailments. During her Master’s program, she volunteered at EndZone connecting young students to tutors in Cincinnati. During her undergraduate years, she researched on projects synthesizing catalysts for a carbon-dioxide reducing reaction to help reduce greenhouse gases. In her spare time, she enjoys baking, crocheting, and exploring new restaurants in Cincinnati.
