The University of Cincinnati Cancer Center offers a number of events and training opportunities to raise awareness of cancer research, provide support to those impacted by cancer, and train current and future cancer researchers and care providers.

The Office of Faculty Affairs and Development serves to promote the excellence of all faculty by assisting them at every stage of their career and providing them with programs and resources that support their professional goals and their contributions to the missions of the College of Medicine.
This Office has created new development programming for faculty in the areas of professional development, research development, teaching and education development, and wellness. A list of their upcoming workshops is provided in OneStop.
The Faculty Enrichment Center provides an array of programming and resources to improve the quality of teaching, service, scholarship and leadership of faculty at the University of Cincinnati. To help faculty reach their full potential, their offerings are designed to meet faculty where they are within their career trajectory—newly appointed, mid-career, tenure track, research-based, and more.

Sample Opportunities (Past and Future):
UC Research Conference Internal Funding Program: Provides supplemental support for UC researchers who wish to host national conferences, focused symposia or other forms of convenings around strategic research areas at UC.
Major Proposal Support Program: Provides internal and external support for tenured and tenure track UC faculty who are targeting major, multi-year, competitive and prestigious funding opportunities.
URC Faculty Research Pivot Grants: targeted to mid-career and beyond faculty who are proposing transformative new ideas and directions for their research, scholarship and creative activities. This program is for individual faculty and may be discipline-focused or interdisciplinary in nature. All areas of research, scholarship and creative activities across UC are eligible.
The Center for Clinical and Translational Science and Training serves the University of Cincinnati, its Academic Health Center partners, and the community by:
- Providing consultation to investigators on research design and implementation through Research Central.
- Providing support for young investigators (faculty and fellows) in clinical and translational research through help in preparing career development awards (e.g., K23).
- Assisting young faculty in careers in clinical and translational research.
- Assisting faculty in preparing large multidisciplinary, multi-school, and multi-institutional grants.
- Coordinating clinical and translational research.
- Spearheading efforts to write institutional training grants.
- Coordinating the MS in Clinical and Translational Research Training Program (Principal Investigator and Clinical Research Professionals tracks), Graduate Certificate in Clinical and Translational Research, the Graduate Certificate in Community-Engaged Research for Health, and the Undergraduate Certificate in Clinical & Translational Science.
- Also offered is the KL2 Research Scholars mentored career development award program for highly qualified MD, PhD, or PharmD junior faculty pursuing careers in clinical and translational research.

At various points througout the year, compass invites junior faculty and postdocs in the United States who lead, or plan to lead, a lab or research team to apply. Those who are from underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged to apply. Compass is funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and is free of charge for the duration of the grant. There is no cost to participate.
Compass scholars learn remotely via a collaborative online learning platform, live virtual sessions with experienced mentors, and peer mentoring teams.
- 10 weeks of foundational training and mentoring (3 hour weekly commitment)
- 6 months of ongoing learning and mentoring (2 hour monthly commitment)
Open enrollment typically occurs prior to the Spring and Fall semesters.
What will scholars do?
- Build a personalized lab manual to welcome and orient team members to their lab
- Engage in team-based peer mentoring
- Learn from experienced mentors
- Get practical tools to use in their lab
- Cultivate a supportive, inclusive environment
Scholars will learn communication, leadership and management skills to navigate becoming a lab leader:
- Handle difficult conversations
- Manage expectations and progress
- Ensure rigor, reproducibility, and transparency
- Model responsible conduct of research
- Manage stress and personal well-being
- How to build and benefit from a diverse lab
