Charles Gabel, Global Health MPH Student, Wins Public Health Essay Contest

Charles Gabel, a Master of Public Health student in Global Health in the Department of Environmental and Public Health Sciences, has won the 2024 Public Health Post Essay Contest.

The contest is hosted by the Public Health Post (PHP), a population health magazine published by Boston University School of Public Health students and public health experts. PHP spotlights critical intersections in public health and social justice to advance conversations about health in the United States. The theme for the 2024 Public Health Post Essay Contest was to convince the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives to make public health a priority in 2024 via policy recommendations.

Gabel won the contest with his essay “Housing for a Healthier America,” an appeal to the need for “participating in the housing market—not just deregulating it or providing subsidies” in order to address the housing issue in America. The winning essay can be read on the Public Health Post website. (This story is sourced from the Dean's List newsletter in the College of Medicine).
