Ranjan Deka, PhD, professor of epidemiology in the Department of Environmental Health, has been named to the Scientific Council for Anthropological Research by the Croatian Academy of Science and Arts. Deka’s research focuses on DNA analysis to understand genetic variation that explains predispositions to cardiometabolic disorders particularly in Polynesian and Croatian island populations.

The Croatian Academy of Science and Arts promotes, organizes and publishes scientific research and encourages the application of the findings of this research, makes proposals and gives its opinion on the promotion of sciences and arts in the fields which are of special importance to the Republic of Croatia. The Academy collaborates with other academies, universities, scientific and cultural institutions, as well as with individual scholars and artists from Croatia and abroad.

The scope of the Scientific Council for Anthropological Research covers planning and implementation of research projects in the field of anthropology, as well as promotion and affirmation of anthropology as an academic discipline.
